GM introduces fuel-efficient XFE full-size SUV and pickup models
- posted: 15.08.08http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/auto-news-blogs/~3/364992973/gm-introduces-fuel-efficient-xfe-full-size-suv-and-pickup-models GM introduces fuel-efficient XFE full-size SUV and pickup models General Motors has released details and photos of its new XFE line of “Xtra Fuel Efficient” large SUVs and pickup trucks. The modifications, which GM first offered on the Chevrolet Cobalt XFE and Pontiac G5 XFE, will be offered on 2009 two-wheel-drive versions of the Chevrolet Tahoe and Silverado and GMC Yukon and Sierra. EPA fuel economy ratings increase to 15/21 city/highway, up from 14/20 for non-XFE two-wheel-drive models, according to General Motors. The increase in efficiency - 7 percent in the city and 5 percent on the highway - comes as a result of a new six-speed automatic transmission and several aerodynamics-enhancing upgrades. The six-speed automatic that mates to the existing 5.3-liter flexible fuel V8 engine in XFE models is now standard across GM’s entire 2009 line of full-size SUVs and pickups other than those with the base 4.8-liter V8. A handful of mass-reducing and wind-cheating features set the XFEs apart from the standard models. To save weight, all four vehicles now feature aluminum lower control arms, an aluminum spare wheel and lightweight 17- (pickups) or 18-inch (SUVs) aluminum wheels mounted on lower rolling-resistance tires. Lowered suspensions and revised chassis tuning helps cheat the wind on all models and the pickups feature a standard soft tonneau cover to reduce wind turbulence in the bed. These aerodynamics modifications make the XFE pickups the most aerodynamic full-size pickups on the market with a low 0.412 coefficient of drag. All four models are rated to tow as much as their non-XFE brethren. GM hasn’t released pricing or release dates for the new models. 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe XFE 2009 Chevrolet Silverado XFE 2009 GMC Yukon XFE 2009 GMC Sierra XFE
When to Disclose Motoring Convictions
- posted: 15.08.08http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/auto-news-blogs/~3/365106624/when-to-disclose-motoring-convictions When applying for a job or car insurance you will normally be required to disclose any convictions you may have. Sometimes a disclaimer may state "not including motoring convictions not leading to periods of disqualification".If on the application no such disclaimer exists then you must disclose even fixed penalties, that is unless the conviction is considered to be spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 in which case no such offenses need to be disclosed. It is important to note that it is a criminal offense to make false representations to obtain either a job or car insurance (or any other financial gain or reward) so if you have any such convictions careful thought and consideration is needed when making an application. The Rehabilitation Act allows some convictions to be deemed spent after a rehabilitation period and therefore non disclosable. There are however a few exceptions. The length of the rehabilitation period is set according to the type of sentence passed not the offense committed but will be extended if further offenses are committed within the rehabilitation period. This is to stop repeat offenders benefiting from the Act.A prison sentence of more than two and a half years never becomes spent under the Act. Prison sentences of between six months and two and a half years are spent after ten years for adults and prison sentences of less than six months are spent after seven years for adults.A majority of motoring offenses don't warrant a prison sentence and usually result in a fixed penalty notice which includes a fine, points on the drivers licence and or disqualification from driving. Any points obtained will remain on a driving license for three years but are not in themselves a conviction covered by the Rehabilitation Act. This means that it is any other penalty imposed at the same time that will determine the rehabilitation period. A disqualification is deemed spent as soon as it is ended but the conviction will still be disclosable until any other sentence that was passed is spent. If a fine is imposed then the rehabilitation period is five years, so that anyone who is disqualified for a short period of time or receives penalty points and a fine (as is usually the case) must disclose the conviction for a period of five yeas from the date of the conviction. If the disqualification exceeds the rehabilitation period for the other penalty imposed i.e. a disqualification of more than five years and a fine then the rehabilitation period is the length of the disqualification. An exception to this is convictions for drink driving. Such a conviction remains on a drivers licence for ten years, as a mandatory extended disqualifications apply for subsequent offenses within a ten year period. When applying for a job or car insurance if you have any doubts over what you should disclose then it is advisable to get proper legal help. Prosecution foe failing to disclose are more common than people think. It is also worth noting that providing false information on a car insurance application can invalidate your car insurance cover which could leave you with a large financial headache if you needed to make a claim. For more driving advice see the driving test and driving schools website driving-test-success.com For video tutorials and driving theory test tips.
Aware of the Loophole in Your Auto Insurance?
- posted: 15.08.08http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/auto-news-blogs/~3/365107022/aware-of-the-loophole-in-your-auto-insurance Loophole is a common word we use when referring to something we are trying to keep from having to do. We might be looking to avoid work, make a task easier or just plain want to take the easy way out in avoiding an unpleasant or costly mistake. Whatever it may be, the mention of loophole usually has a negative connotation. For example, income tax loophole, contract loophole, disability loophole and the modern day ESPN 360 or Myspace loophole. It was just in the last few months that I learned that we ALL have a loophole in our auto insurance policies. I will explain shortly. Just consider how likely this could be you:You are on your way to work in the morning and running late, you or someone else also running late happen to be eating, shaving or putting on make up. Maybe you are reaching over into the back seat for your brief case or to separate two upset children. You could have dropped your cell phone and are reaching down for it. See yourself in any of these scenarios? You know it only takes a couple seconds being distracted while driving when your vehicle crosses the line a couple feet, you hit someone and you are involved in a wreck. Maybe it is so tragic that someone loses their life and passes into eternity. In 2006, there were 42,642 traffic deaths in the United States according to the U. S. Department of Transportation. That is about 117 deaths a day, just in the USA.As usual, the first thing you think is, that won't ever happen to me. You say I will never die in an auto accident. You never know, so make sure you are ready to meet God. See Help Link at the bottom of this article.Next, you think, I would never be involved in a wreck that killed someone. I am too careful a driver for that, you say. I am sure every one of those 42,642 that died in traffic accidents in 2006 had these very same or similar thoughts. As I said before just one LITTLE distraction is all it takes. Ever get distracted while driving? Now that we see it could be quite possible to be involved in a tragic auto accident, here is where the insurance company loophole comes in. IF you were responsible for such an accident (and you had auto insurance), your insurance company would pay for the damages up to the dollar amount of your policy. Now, what happens if you get sued by the decedent's family? In this type situation, legal fees can run between $30,000-$100,000. Will your auto insurance company pay for your legal fees? NO!!! Not a chance. THIS is the loophole the insurance company will jump through without fail for anyone this happens to.If you are like me, up until a few months ago, not only did I not know this, I had never really thought about this possibility. I certainly don't have $30,000-$100,000 to defend myself in case of a tragic accident as I have described. This New York Stock Exchange listed company will pay ALL the legal fees of one of it's members involved in such an accident. I made sure I planned for life's unplanned events. You can too!CLICK LINKS BELOW FOR MORE INFORMATION:HELP LINK: http://tinyurl.com/5p6bj4I am a Small Business Owner that loves sports and enjoys helping others plan for life's unplanned events. Car Insurance - Avoiding an Accident
- posted: 15.08.08http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/auto-news-blogs/~3/365107018/car-insurance-avoiding-an-accident The UK now has roughly 33 million registered vehicles on its roads, and this figure is ever increasing. Correlating with this is the number of road related deaths, which two years ago was roughly 258,000. With congested roads filled with frantic motorists its imperative that you are clued up on basic road tips both for your sake and that of others.First and foremost, never, ever drive while under the influence of alcohol or any other intoxicating substance. Even though this is against the law in every established country, with heavy penalty's being imposed on those found guilty - it is still a wide-spread problem. Not only does alcohol give you a false sense of ability, but it slows vital reaction times down considerably.Tailgating, or following the car in front too closely, is another major contributor to road accidents in the UK. When tailgating you are essentially cutting off the view of any activity ahead of the car in front of you and reducing the amount of time you have to react to any sudden changes the car ahead makes. The space in between you and the car ahead should be considered as a sort of "buffer", as a rule of thumb leave a two second gap, four seconds when wet and 10 when icy.Following on from the above point, many motorists fail to adjust their driving speed based on the condition of the road. When the road is wet or icy, braking times are increased considerably - your speed should therefore be adjusted accordingly. Minimising the number of distractions you have while driving also helps a tremendous amount, common distractions include, hand-held phones, loud music, eating food etc.Having a good idea of what is going on around your vehicle at all times is imperative, relying solely on your mirrors is not enough - its important that you check your "blind spots" before slowing down or changing lanes etc.Needless to say the roads are only as safe as the motorists using them, and you can exercise all the caution in the world but if someone else slips up then you too could end up paying the price. For this reason it's vital that you have adequate motor insurance. If you feel you are currently paying too much for your insurance then the internet is an excellent place to compare car insurance and get a cheap car insurance quote.
Toyota using $3.50 as floor for U.S. gas prices
- posted: 15.08.08http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/auto-news-blogs/~3/365114806/toyota-using-3-50-as-floor-for-u-s-gas-prices Toyota using $3.50 as floor for U.S. gas prices Earlier this year the auto industry witnessed an unprecedented shift in consumer demand from large trucks and SUVs to smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles as gas prices topped the $4 mark. Although gas prices have retreated from their record highs, most buyers are still giving trucks and SUVs a wide berth. However, Toyota feels the full-size truck and SUV segments are primed for recovery. According to Ford CEO Alan Mulally, the breaking point for truck and SUV sales was when gas prices topped $3.50. Although seeing $3.50 at the pump seems like a distant memory for most Americans, Toyota division general manager for Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Bob Carter, revealed that the Japanese automaker expects U.S. gas prices to bottom out at $3.50. If Toyota’s prediction comes true, it would give some support to the ailing truck and SUV markets. “We are absolutely confident that the recovery will take place, it’s just arguable when,” Carter told Automotive News. However, Carter is unsure of whether “recreational user” of pickup trucks will ever return to the segment. Even if gas prices to come back down to $3.50, it’s likely pickup sales would be dominated by professionals, rather than the average person who only uses a truck’s capacities every once in a while. But even if gas prices retreat in the interim, they won’t stay there forever. Toyota expecting gas prices to top $5 by the middle of next decade.
Auto Insurance Coverage For Customized Cars
- posted: 15.08.08http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/auto-news-blogs/~3/365107329/auto-insurance-coverage-for-customized-cars In this new age of customizing and modifying cars with expensive, unique, and sometimes high tech additions, the question is raised as to whether or nor the insurance companies cover the modifications. Another item to consider if is the cost of your premium will go up as a result of your vehicle enhancements. The most common customization of old was a nice shiny paint job, but those days are long gone. Now the most common enhancement would have to be rims. The rims I am referring to are not hubcaps, they are the complete wheel, usually made of chrome, and the more shiny the better. Because some rims are so large, the owner of the car may have to buy thinner tires. The modification does not stop at the rims and tires; owners also add custom grills, exhaust pipes, TV screens and LCD monitors, DVD players, GPS systems, mega stereo systems and even video game consoles. Now before you go spend your paycheck on the hottest new add-ons for your car, you need to check on one thing, your auto insurance policy.Since the car modification trend has only recently blown up, insurance companies and the coverages they offer may not include the newer, more extreme changes being made to cars. The best thing you can do is visit your insurance agent or get a quote from a new company before making any changes to your car or better yet, before you even buy anything that you want to add to your car. It would be a shame if you did not plan ahead and spent a lot of money on items that would not be protected by your insurance policy. Most insurers have a classification known as "substantial customization" that your customized car may fit into. If so, you do not have to buy a special policy. You can still have your comprehensive coverage but in order to protect your added items an endorsement must be added. An endorsement is basically a change to your policy, in this case a change to provide coverage for your custom parts. When adding the endorsement, fully understand the amount of coverage because it's no use if your items are worth more than the coverage available to you. Insurance companies only insure what each individual part is worth, not the cost of replacement. Now that you have researched your coverage options, you are ready to get your hands dirty and start adding the items you desire, or are you? When dealing with expensive items, especially electronics, my best advice is to have everything installed professionally. Sorry do-it-yourselfers, but this should be done to ensure everything is installed safely and properly. It may sound incorrect, but the professional installation will save you money in the long run. With your insurance policy in hand, your car add-ons and a professional installer, you are now ready to "pimp" your ride!Tod F. is owner of http://www.theinsurancefiles.com The Insurance Files is a great resource for information on all types of auto insurance, health insurance, life insurance, homeowners insurance and more. Man selling million-mile Silverado on eBay for… $30,000
- posted: 15.08.08http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/auto-news-blogs/~3/365114805/man-selling-million-mile-silverado-on-ebay-for-30-000 Man selling million-mile Silverado on eBay for… $30,000 A Catawba, Wis., man says he’s planning to put his 1991 Chevrolet Silverado on eBay tonight now that he’s crossed the million-mile mark. Crossing seven figures isn’t that common, though in the last couple of years we can think of a Saab, a VW and a couple of pickups that made that feat. But owner Frank Oresnik thinks he has something special. Oresnik told the Associated Press that he plans to set a $30,000 reserve on the old pickup when it goes on eBay because he considers it a monumental achievement. Oresnik accumulated in the mileage in 12 years of owning it by delivering seafood from Chicago to small towns in Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota. “I feel almost like the long-time NFL player as he goes into his last training camp knowing this is the end,” Oresnik told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. It’s unclear whether Wisconsinite Oresnik sees his Silverado as the Brett Favre of pickups, however. Oresnik says that he thinks GM and Shell would be interested in acquiring the truck.

She is the author of the bestselling autobiography, ”A State of Mind: My Story,” the unique channel of Ramtha the Enlightened One, and one of the most charismatic leaders of the Schools of Ancient Wisdom and the Great Work in the world today. About Ramtha’s School of EnlightenmentRamtha the Enlightened One is a Master Teacher who learned to transcend the limitations of the physical world and humanity in the dynamic times he lived long ago. His mission is to teach others what he knows. Ramtha first appeared to JZ Knight in February 1977 at her home in Tacoma, Washington, where she lived with her husband and two young children. At that first meeting, Ramtha explained to her that he was here to help her ”over the ditch of limitation” and they would do ”grand work together.” Ramtha prepared and taught her personally for two years so he could teach his message to the world using her body through the phenomenon he called channeling. It was Ramtha who coined the term channeling in the late 1970s, which became very popular during the 1980s. JZ Knight started channeling Ramtha publicly around the country and abroad beginning in 1978 and continuing through the 1980s. This period of their work together was called the ”Dialogue Days.” In 1996 and 1997, a group of independent scientists and scholars had the opportunity to study the phenomenon of channeling as it happens in JZ Knight. When their studies were completed, they reported that JZ Knight’s experiences were authentic and that there was ”a real phenomenon taking place” in her which ”could not be faked” as it involved dramatic changes in her autonomic nervous system. Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment (RSE) was established in 1988, when Ramtha began a series of teachings which became the foundation of the School of Ancient Wisdom, The Original School of Consciousness & Energy℠. Using ancient wisdom and the latest discoveries in neuroscience and quantum physics, RSE teaches students how to access the extraordinary abilities latent in their brain and the tools to Become a Remarkable Life℠. RSE has students from all over the world and all walks of life from six years of age to well into the golden years. Simultaneous foreign translation in seven languages — Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish — is offered at RSE to international students as needed. Since 1999, Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment has presented Beginning Retreats to more than twenty thousand students in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and over twelve additional countries. A stunning 84% to 90% of the students who attended those events reported that the Beginning Retreat was ”the greatest week of their life, so far.” Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment is truly a growing international school today.
