Small cars used to be manufactured for buyers looking for cheap transportation. A decade ago, it was possible to buy half a dozen small cars without even power windows or rear defrosters. Those willing to spend more on options were buying SUVs, or midsize and large cars. In today's market, however, middle class buyers and even the wealthy are downsizing. These buyers are looking for smaller cars that get higher ...

2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan spotted on U.S. soil

As indicated by the photos, the E-Class will lose its round headlights in favor of two-piece units similar in overall shape to the new single-piece lights on the new SL-Class. Because the new W212 E-Class is an entirely new car, it features a redesigned interior with new technologies and more room for passengers. New features include the latest generation COMAND interface, lane-departure warnings, an eye-movement monitor, traffic-sign identification, road-condition sensors, and stability control that accounts for crosswinds, camber changes, and tire wear. The exterior design is expected to follow in the footsteps of the S-Class, and more recently, the new C-Class. So far, most of the design elements appear entirely predictable, although we’ll hold final judgment until the official unveiling at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. Engine-wise, we’ll get the usual V6- and V8-engines, plus a normally aspirated, 500-plus-bhp 6.3-liter V8 for the E63 AMG model. Clean diesels seeing strong initial demand
- posted: 15.07.08http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/auto-news-blogs/~3/335384995/clean-diesels-seeing-strong-initial-demand Clean diesels seeing strong initial demand Because diesel prices are well above even premium gas prices around the country, many industry experts predicted that the new batch of clean-diesels would see little success in the U.S. However, because of their un-economy car-like performance and hybrid-rivaling fuel economy, many buyers are looking past the high prices at the pump. The 2009 Jetta TDI sedan and wagon have yet to hit the market, but customers are already signing up for the new cars in droves. Many VW dealers have even sold out of their allotment of TDI cars. “People are becoming aware of what constitutes a true economy vehicle,” Richard Fisher, owner of Auto Barn VW, told Automotive News. “They don’t just want economy but a car that drives well and handles well and has good performance.” The TDI Jetta promises 30 to 35 percent better fuel economy than its gasoline counterpart, with EPA ratings of 29/40 mpg city/highway. Also helping the Jetta TDI’s cause is its low cost of entry. With a starting price of just $22,640, the TDI is a no brainer for many customers, especially those who do a lot of highway driving – a weak point for hybrid vehicles. VW’s diesels also have a strong reputation for reliability, with diesel VWs routinely clocking 200,000 to 300,000 miles. Although it remains to be seen if diesel’s popularity will be able to continue this momentum with higher prices at the pump, it’s at least a good sign for other automakers – such as Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz – who are planning clean diesel launches in the U.S. over the next few months.
The Basics in Car Accident Insurance
- posted: 15.07.08http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/auto-news-blogs/~3/335413321/the-basics-in-car-accident-insurance Being involved in a car accident is a traumatic experience. Aside from the physical injury that you have to endure, there are various expenses to be paid. But why worry; there is a car accident insurance company that will handle it.Do I need car insurance?Certainly, you need car insurance.Driving without car insurance is illegal. But, there is more to this. Having car insurance will protect you financially from any future liability. Car insurance is considered as one of the most expensive aspects of owning a car but it is also the most important.Buying a car insurance policy is like having a contract between you and your insurance company. You promise to pay money and they promise to pay car related expenses within the period of the policy. What are the types of car insurance policies? There are many types of car insurance coverage available. Some are required while others are optional. Knowing the different kinds of coverage is the first thing to do so that you will know what can fully protect your interest. The following are the different types of car insurance coverage: Liability Coverage - Most states require this kind of coverage. It pays to bodily injury and property damage caused to others. Bodily injury pays to other people's injuries including medical expenses, loss of wages and pain and suffering. Personal Injury Protection - This is one of the optional coverage. This coverage pays your medical expenses including your passengers at the time of the accident. It differs to liability coverage because it pays no matter whose at fault in the accident. Collision - This type pays for the damage to your car in colliding with other vehicle or object. This type of coverage is optional. What is the extent of liability coverage?Liability coverage pays only for bodily injury and property damage to others when you are at fault and it only pays to the extent of your dollar limits. Therefore, if your expenses are higher than your limit then you will be financially responsible for it.However, liability coverage does not protect you from your own loses.Factors that affects ratesCar insurance policy rates are based on many factors. The premium paid reflects factors such as, age, gender, driving record and many others. However, the common factors that are universally applicable are the following: Age - Statistics show that drivers below 30 years old are most likely to be involved in a car accident. Therefore, younger drivers are charged with higher rates. Gender - Same as age, statistics show that men drivers are involved in more accidents than the rest of the population. Therefore, they are charged more than anybody is. The type of car - The more expensive your car is, the higher its rate. This is because these types of vehicles are more likely to be stolen and to cause much when repaired. Your location - Insurance companies also consider your location. Heavily populated areas tend to have higher number of accidents. Driving pattern - The more you use your car, the higher the rate because there is more risk of being involved in an accident.Buying car insurance is expensive. Therefore, it is important to compare the policies in terms of price, coverage, exclusions and the reputation of the insurance company. However, you must bear some car accident insurance problems that might occur. Toyota to offer Bluetooth phone support in 15 models
- posted: 15.07.08http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/auto-news-blogs/~3/335384994/toyota-to-offer-bluetooth-phone-support-in-15-models Toyota to offer Bluetooth phone support in 15 models Toyota will offer Bluetooth wireless connectivity for cell phones in 15 of its current models, and will include it in the all-new Venza crossover when it goes on sale this fall. The move comes at a time when an increasing number of states are making talking on cell phones without a headset illegal. The Bluetooth system is part of the optional Toyota onboard DVD navigation or JBL audio system. On the Toyota RAV4, Corolla and Matrix, the optional JBL sound system brings with it the Bluetooth option, while the company’s trucks, SUVs and minivans, along with the Avalon, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Prius and Solara models get it with the optional JBL system or DVD navigation system. The system will work with Bluetooth-enabled systems to integrate the phone’s operation with the sound system’s controls, giving users the ability to control their phones via the car’s steering wheel radio controls, or via voice commands thanks to built-in microphones in each vehicle. Once the phone is paired with the system and engaged, incoming audio calls are heard over the muted audio. Toyota’s dedicated website provides a listing of compatible phones and functionality.
How to get the best gas mileage from your car by using GPS By Mike Legg
- posted: 15.07.08http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/auto-news-blogs/~3/335413320/how-to-get-the-best-gas-mileage-from-your-car-by-using-gps-by-mike-legg Everybody is asking how to get the best gas mileage from their cars these days; well some of us already have one simple way to achieve this. Many of us have now got a GPS (Global Positioning System) in our cars. This little device which is mounted onto the dashboard helps us to find our way around unfamiliar cities by telling us where and when to make a right or left turn, or by finding the best route to a certain location. But how many of us are using our GPS to get the best gas mileage from our cars? One way to use our GPS to get gas mileage improvements is to ask it to find the quickest route to out destination. Notice that I said quickest and not shortest route, thats because the route on a map that looks the shortest may in fact be filled with stop signs and other hold ups that would be wasting precious gas. So its much more economical to ask it to find the QUICKEST route.Another plus of using a GPS is that most of them will let you mark hundreds of your favourite locations, and places that you visit on a regular basis. These location marks ("waypoints" if you want the correct term) will help your GPS to map out the quickest route for your multiple stops, so saving you gas by not having to run around all over the place. The GPS has come along way since it first came out, and the newer versions are even better. The next generation in GPS utility has begun with Dash, a device that incorporates aspects of social networking. These aspects allow it to tell you much more than just where to make the next turn or where you are at any particular time. It can also tell you where the traffic hold-ups are. With the use of an internet connection along with a two-way satellite connection it allows the user to send information as well as receive it. This system makes the traffic reports generated by Dash very detailed and up to date minute by minute. This is because while you are driving Dash is constantly transmitting anonymous information on your speed and location. You can also use Dashs internet connection to access social networking sites, allowing YOU to post information on traffic hold-ups so helping other drivers following or using the same route as you.So Dash is constantly calculating your route by using maps and real-time traffic information. This highly personalized; detailed and immediately updated information on traffic reports makes it a really effective way to get gas mileage improvements as well as saving you valuable time stuck in traffic.Another bonus of using Dash is that it can tell you where to get the cheapest gas available on your route by using its internet access to sites like Gasbuddy. So if you are still trying to find out how to get the best gas mileage from your car, the proper use of a good GPS with something like Dash is a great start.
BMW 6-Series by Hamann - More Sport More Refinement
- posted: 15.07.08http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/auto-news-blogs/~3/335418630/bmw-6-series-by-hamann-more-sport-more-refinement When it comes to exclusively refining BMWs, HAMANN-Motorsport is one of the first addresses. Again, the Laupheim-based company gives proof to this by introducing its latest refinements for the new BMW 6-series. By developing an entire tuning programme not only for the coupé, but also the convertible, HAMANN-Motorsport renders an additional sportive and individual touch to the facelift already applied by BMW. Already the design elements create this impression and increase the aerodynamics as well. The front- and rear spoiler reduce the buoyant forces of the HAMANN 6-series which has a significant effect on the car´s handling and agility. This is also achieved with an additional pair of side skirts which significantly calms the air flow between both axles. The roof- and rear spoiler also ensure the necessary surface pressure on the asphalt. Mainly on country roads with winding sections, the HAMANN-aerodynamic package unfolds its strengths and generates pure enjoyment of driving. At HAMANN-Motorsport, the individual wishes of our customers are also top of the list. This has been taken into account when designing the tuning package for the BMW 6-series. Due to the large interest in different optical programmes, our designers developed another aerodynamics package called EDITION RACE. This turns the BMW in an impressive sports car, as it consequently emphasizes the broadening components. New front wings, 4-part wing broadenings in the back and enormous side skirts transform the BMW 6-series into an automobile which looks like a race car from the German Touring Car Masters or other touring car championships. But there is even more to the HAMANN sport tuning elements under the bonnet. When developing the 6-series programme, our technicians rather concentrated on evolution instead of revolution. Basically, the sport limousine has a good motorisation, therefore we put a special focus on the performance enhancement for the 630i, 650i and the diesel 635d. Adapting the motor management with up to 21 hp more and the powerful torque increase can be felt immediately when accelerating. Moreover, HAMANN customers can look forward to the Vmax abolition. This enables the 650i to boost the maximum speed from 250 to 270 km/h. The HAMANN sport exhaust system renders an earthy and impressive sound. The stainless steel muffler with its four round tail pipes can be optically perked up with metal catalysts, sport fan manifolds and a middle pipe set. The rim programme is also impressive in terms of dimension and diversity. No matter if you are looking for something sporty, elegant or noble – HAMANN offers varying wheel-designs and sizes. The designation HM EVO reveals a one-piece wheel with 20 inches. Its modern style is underlined with its black-lacquered varnish, diamond-grinded hub star and a discreet recess. Five extended and vaulted triple spokes display the optical and technical finesse. The recommended front wheel-tyre combination is 8,5Jx20 inches with tyres measuring 245/35ZR20 and 10,5Jx20 inches with 285/30ZR20 tyres in the back. One of the technical highlights of the offered tuning programme is the 21-inch model called HM EVO “FORGED”. Manufactured in forge technology, it is extremely light and improves the handling, acceleration and braking characteristics by its reduced unsuspended masses. The front wheel-tyre combination is offered in 9,0Jx21 inches with tyres measuring 255/30ZR21 and 10,5Jx21 inches with tyres measuring 295/25ZR21 in the back. Prices starting at 7,620 euros. HAMANN recommends high performance tyres type S1 EVO from its technology partner HANKOOK. The extended product programme of HAMMAN´s sport accessories includes progressively coiled chassis springs for lowering the chassis, a height adjustable coil-overs and a sport braking system. HAMANN tunes the interior with a 3-spoke sport steering wheel with an air-bag, a black instrumental dial with a scale up to 300 km/h as well as matching pedals, leg rests and hand brake handles made of aluminium. For more information about the extensive HAMANN tuning programme, please visit the web site www.HAMANN-MOTORSPORT.com.
